TEMPERATURE-CONTROLLED CONTAINERS

Temperature-controlled (Refrigerated) equipment is ideal for the storage or transportation of temperature-sensitive goods.

The key features of these containers are:

TEMPERATURE RANGE

Although the range will depend on a number of factors (e.g. the age and type of the machinery, ambient conditions, cargo packing etc.), most containers can cope with maintaining internal temperatures of plus 20 degrees down to minus 25 degrees centigrade.

As these units are designed to maintain an existing temperature, the product to be stored or transported must be pre-cooled (or preheated) to the required level before loading.

MACHINERY

The refrigeration machinery is housed in the front, fixed end of the container and it requires an external power source.

In the more modern containers the machines are controlled and monitored by microprocessor and the operational history accessible by PC or laptop program.

Some containers are equipped with an integral diesel generator, which enables them to be self-sustaining for short periods.

POWER SUPPLY

The machinery normally requires 440 volt VA50 to 60Hz (3 phase).

CONTAINER CONSTRUCTION

This will vary between manufacturers but a typical container will comprise a steel frame with walls made from 60 to 75mm insulation clad internally with Stainless Steel for easy cleaning. The external skin would either also be stainless steel or aluminium.

Temperature-controlled containers

The floors are usually aluminium "T-Section" to facilitate temperature-controlled air circulation.

DOMESTIC STORAGE

The containers can be modified for static storage. The modifications can include:
